With Duffield's ability to hit a sac fly. Again, insane coaching decision. And then he leaves Correa in instead of going righty-lefty with either Royo or Cummings. Does Correa have a hit this year against a lefty? Has he done anything but strikeout each time up against a LHP? For a guy who relies on scouting reports and analytics, having Correa bat in that situation was nuts.

RE: UAB 3
In the battle vs UAB for last place in the AAC, Owls retake the title after this weekend at 3-9.
Owls had 4 extra base hits today, 2B, two 3Bs, and a HR, but still manage to score only3 runs, one of which was unearned. The lack of offensive efficiency is baffling. With anything approaching average, this weekend would have been an easy sweep. The pitching staff deserved better.

I guess we were hoping for a bunt that didn't go firmly right at the first baseman. Given his nearby location charging in I think the result was predictable.

I am sure replacing Correa with someone hitting .169 or 0.130 would have guaranteed a hit to tie the game. Baseball is a game of failure. Really good hitters fail 7 out of 10 times. Regarding strategy, you can choose something and do everything right and have it not work. If it does not work, that does not mean if you chose an alternative it would have worked. We would not be even discussing this if the UAB SS had not made an incredible play on Rank the previous inning.
Also, remember when you are stating things, they are opinions. They are not facts. Kind of like your OPINION that Smigelski was the best pure hitter at Rice since Rendon and would be a top ten round draft pick after this season. The dude can't even get on the field in Memphis.

"Guaranteed a hit"? Of course not. However, Jose has played the righty-lefty game all year long, and he usually makes decisions based on analytics and trending. Given how poorly Correa looked against the very same pitcher (6.60 ERA) the previous day (he was brought in specifically to face Correa)-- looking at 3 consecutive strikes, I think the odds were better going with a right-handed hitter-- ANY right-handed hitter-- instead of Correa. And I said that in real time in the game thread, before Correa stepped up to the plate. So what happened-- Correa once again never takes his bat off his shoulder and strikes out of 4 pitches to end the game.
And, yes, what people say on this message board are opinions. No kidding, Sherlock. I may express my opinions stronger than some other might, but they are still just my opinions. I have never claimed otherwise.
