RE: OT: NEW He's Dead, Jim--notable Deaths thread
Mike Pinder, co-founder of the Moody Blues, died last week at the age of 82. Pinder was an outstanding musician who adapted and used the mellotron, giving the group a big part of their sound when they reconstituted in 1967 for their groundbreaking concept album, "Days of Future Passed". His is the voice you hear on the poem that opens the album, and late, closes the album on the long version of "Nights in White Satin".

He helped to start the more "rock" version of the band in 1964, with Denny Laine as lead singer. Laine left the band after their first album which includes the remake of "Go Now". Later he joined Paul McCartney to form "Wings".

Pinder, Graeme Edge and Ray Thomas bright in John Lodge and Justin Hayward to form the band that produced 7 outstanding progressive rock albums. Pinder left the band in 1976 after those 7 albums to spend time with his family. He never rejoined the group until they were (finally) inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame a few years ago.

Only Hayward and Lodge are still alive.
